I do speak other languages, but these are the only ones I feel are on the right level for me to contribute in.

About me

Hey! The name's Tjalling, or BlackCat on teh interwebz. I was born and bred in Groningen (the Netherlands) and still live there today.

On the Wiki's, I mostly contribute to the Dutch Wikipedia under the name BlackCat, but I do sometimes venture out into the English one, where I contribute under my real name Tjalling, since my regular nickname was already taken.

On both those projects my edits usually stay limited to correcting mistakes, because I do not feel I have yet gathered enough knowledge on specific subjects to make any other valuable contribution. I do believe these contributions are also one of the most important ones because they keep the projects accurate and readable.

Most people I speak or otherwise communicate with value me for the way I can contribute very objectively in a conflict or problem, even if I am personally involved. I say can, because I can also talk in a very politically incorrect manner about subjects which are generally taboo. I won't name any examples, what if you're offended by it It's just part of my humor.

Questions are preferably asked through e-mail or on my userpage on the Dutch Wikipedia (don't be scared by the language, just press the '+'). When you post there I will reply wherever you indicate in your message.

Opinions and information

Language

  • This user writes in American English (and yes, he has been influenced by popular culture)
  • This user thinks that too many people have no idea how to use words that they should have learned in grade two.
  • This user thinks that if your grammar is incorrect, then you’re in need of help.
  • This user thinks that there are too many people who don’t know that they’re worse than their own children at spelling!
  • This user prefers not to use the serial comma, unless that would lead to ambiguity.
  • This user hates two spaces after a full stop.

Wiki's

  • Don't be a dick.
  • I don't bite newcomers (though vandals taste really nice).
  • I try to do my best and I love it if people point out that I'm wrong about something, because that means my knowledge has been improved (because corrected). That's why I encourage you to contact me if you see me making a mistake, instead of merely correcting it.
  • I am very unforgiving towards vandals. That is, when it comes to their life as an editor on the projects. People are contributing to the Wiki's in their free time and if there are people who dedicate theirs to annul that hard work, I say: F*ck 'em! I mean, there's always room for a beginners-error, but people who are determined to obstruct the good work done here have deserve no respect from me, or anyone else. I do see their actions on the internet separate from their real-life being, because I do not take teh interwebs so serious that I judge a person by their behavior online (though the one can be an indication for the other).
